Darcy Byrne and Adele Tahan have a positive plan to make sure the Inner West Council is working for you.
Policies will be posted here as they are announced, in the lead-up to the Council election on 4 December.
Food Recycling for Every Home
Our Local Labor team has extended food recycling to every apartment in the Inner West but now we need to deliver this service to every single household. By expanding food recycling to all homes, we can save millions of dollars in public money and massively reduce carbon emissions from food rotting in landfill.
Revitalising Balmain Town Hall Precinct
As Mayor, Darcy delivered the new Balmain Square at the site of the Telephone Exchange on Darling Street. We will build on this through a $2 million commitment to upgrade and revitalise the whole Balmain Town Hall Precinct. This precinct, including the Town Hall itself, the Courthouse and the glasshouse is the centrepiece of Balmain and it must be revitalised.
Protecting and Improving Callan Park
We are fighting for the creation of the Callan Park Public Trust to secure the future of this precious site and protect it against privatisation, such as the current proposal for 50-year commercial leases there. Allowing the opening of a cafe, securing the return of the Laneway Festival and exploring the establishment of a High School, TAFE or University Campus in the Kirkbride Precinct, are our priorities for Callan Park.
Creating an Inner West Fitness Pass
We will establish an Inner West Fitness Pass so that you can use all of Council’s pools and gyms for the cost of a single membership. By bringing all aquatic centres in-house and having one Inner West Council pool and fitness system, we can provide better services and more options for you and your family.
Free Period Products at Council Facilities
We believe that sanitary items are as basic and necessary as toilet paper and soap. That’s why we will provide free tampons and pads in bathrooms at libraries, pools, community centres and sporting grounds. Sanitary items are a necessity, not a luxury, and this move will support tens of thousands of girls and women across the Inner West.
DAs in 60 Days
Our team will establish a new target for development applications to be determined within 60 days by the Inner West Council. We want to make the DA process simpler, faster and more customer friendly. For simple applications such as a change of use for a business premises or a small renovation to a home we need to drive processing times down to even lower than 60 days.
